CAMARILLO SOAR INITIATIVE
TO PROTECT OPEN SPACE AND AGRICULTURAL LANDS (INCLUDING THE PROPOSED, BUT PUBLICLY REJECTED, CONEJO CREEK PROJECT AREA)
We were successful in our campaign to STOP the proposed Conejo Creek Development, and now we need to continue our efforts, and SAVE our city’s amazing gateway, by passing the Camarillo SOAR ballot measure that will renew SOAR until 2050.
SOAR (Save Open Space and Agricultural Resources) is a series of voter initiatives – one overall for the County, and 8 for the individual cities – that protect Ventura County’s open spaces and farmland from the unilateral decisions of just a few city council members/County Supervisors. The current SOAR protections are due to expire in 2020. It is our hope to use the 2016 election to win a public vote of the people to renew SOAR up to the year 2050.
Lands protected by SOAR require a vote of the people before they can be rezoned and approved for development.
We are very proud to have joined forces with all the many County/City residents who support and promote SOAR. This individual City of Camarillo SOAR renews the existing initiative, but has been expanded to incorporate a special Conejo Creek Voter Participation Area. This is all of the land that had been proposed for development under the very unpopular Conejo Creek Project (which was subsequently rejected by the City). When passed, it will give the citizens of Camarillo the right to decide on the future use of this property, and not just the 5 members of the City Council.
Our next step is to get out the vote and get the Camarillo SOAR ballot measure passed in November.
