Letter to the Editor – Opposition More than just a “handful”
You certainly got the order of the top 10 stories of the year correct. However, I want to clear up a misconception about the No. 1 story of the year: the Conejo Creek development.
The “handful of community groups” mentioned in the article are actually neighborhood groups that represent Camarillo Springs, Leisure Village, Santa Rosa Valley and Woodside Greens.
There is also Stop Conejo Creek Development, a group that represents over 5,000 citizens throughout Camarillo.
The two Conejo Creek development public hearings held so far were packed with citizens and agencies in opposition to this project. In fact, only one person, the project manager, spoke in favor of it. I think this is a more accurate representation of the community sentiment.
In addition, empty buildings don’t create jobs, construction workers will be put to work on the 1,350 residences in the already-approved Springville development, and Camarillo has met its regional housing quota through 2021.
We do not need the Conejo Creek development for jobs or housing. We do need to save our limited prime farmland, which in Ventura County is being lost at the rate of more than 550 acres per year. We do need a 101 Freeway corridor that moves!
